Crusty Bugger » Nike+ iPod WordPress Widget Installation Tutorial
Woot! Got the wordpress widget installed with a few problems that I managed to fix.
Problem 1: Widget displays in miles, changed to KM
Problem 2: Somehow the DOCTYPE text is displayed before the white box. (See Screenshot). Fixed by downloading the nplus.xsl from the site, commented it out by hand, and change the script to grab the xsl from the filesystem.

Problem 3: Can’t really fix this one as I don’t have the time
. When the plugin has got problems downloading the data from the nike plus website, we get a NaN (Not a Number) as the result. This can be solved by caching IMHO. I believe that caching the data for an hour or a day won’t stress out the data retrieval that the Nike servers sometimes faced.

Anyway, here’s a pat on the back to Chris Bert for writing such a cool utility. I can’t wait for the version 0.2

Pingback from Notes in the Margin · Everything I ever wanted to know about Nike+iPod Sports Kit…
February 10th, 2007 at 8:52 am[...] The internet rocks. Bloggers are coming up with new ways to brag about your running exploits every day and the Nike+iPod Sports Kit has taken this to a new level. Small “badges” that can be placed on your own website (such as the one to the right) are popping up all over the place. A nice graphical interface widget is available from web developer Rush Frisby. Another, more simple widget is offered for wordpress blogs by Crusty Bugger. The significant downside to each fo those widgets is that you must host a blog on your own server space. Since many of us (msyelf included) are authoring blogs on free space offered by wordpress.com, we must rely on simpler image scripts that are available. More detail on installing Crusty Bugger’s widget for wordpress blogs is described here. The one that is placed permanently on my left sidebar (and shown here in this post) is from justdoing.it and offers a wonderfully simple installation even to a limited, free blog such as this one. If you’re participating in challenges and would like to view progress easily without logging in to the Nike+ page, get the Nike+ widget from the official website. I’ve never been a fan of desktop widgets and this one crawls when it comes to loading so after checking it out, I deleted it. [...]

Yeah, and one shouldn’t bring around his mobile phone as well, as that can be tracked too. Heck, if there’s someone following me 20 meters away, walking about the same pace as me and following me through 5 to 8 kms, just to map out where I do my runs, I’d definitely be cautious
My mobile phone, my PDA and my notebook emits bluetooth and Wifi signals, I’m sure they go further than what my Nike+ transmitter can do, as the receiver sometimes got difficulty getting data even at very close range.

Another way of displaying Nike+ data could be with the flash widget I have created.
It works similar to the wordpress widget, but uses flash to display the data in a Nike+ look and feel.
